Melissa Steiner was the heir to the throne of the Lyran Commonwealth. She wed Prince Hanse Davion of the Federated Suns which brought forth the merger of the two realms into what would become known as the Federated Commonwealth. The merger created the greates star empire the Inner Sphere had seen since before the fall of the Star League.
