It is said that Major Bainbridge made one last call to the regional command for reassignment back to Federated Suns territory. It was refused by Duke Ryan Steiner. The same Duke that backed the Free Skye Movement and negotiated the end of hostilities on the planet after Hanse Davion had sent AFFS forces to put down the rebellion. The Major is said to have resigned his commission on the spot exclaiming that he wouldn’t take orders from a Steiner brat. Upon returning to the unit and explaining the refusal each and every last one of the CRD garrison force removed their rank insignia and either resigned their commissions or refused to serve. The unit was later disbanded and the insubordinate pilots were returned to new Avalon where they were publicly court marshaled and handed discharge papers marked "other than honorable".
Later that day a new mercenary battalion was formed and awarded a large contract protecting worlds near the border of the newly formed St. Ives compact and the Capellen Confederation to prevent conflict from crossing over into Federated Commonwealth space. A few months later in an unnamed bar on a border world in the Capellen March, Bainbridge was said to be making a toast to the former officers and NCOs of the Coreward Regional Defense Battalion. "Welcome back to CORED boys!" and "This round’s on our new employer!" explained Bainbridge, nodding at a dirty portrait of Hanse Davion hanging on the wall.
